About Linnis Blanton

Best Kept Secret Ceramic Potter

Linnis Blanton was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas.  He has been working as an artist, using clay as the primary medium of expression, for over thirty years. He completed his undergraduate studies at Lamar University with an All Level Art Education degree, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Linnis had taught thirty years in the public school system. Currently, he is teaching at Lamar University. Blanton’s work has been published in Ceramic Monthly magazine, and the book entitled 500 Plates and Chargers. He has numerous exhibits throughout his career. 
While studied at Texas Tech University, James Watkins and Sarah Water were a major influence on Blanton’s pottery.  Presently, Blanton is experimenting with alternative firing method, and with paper clay; he finds both of these techniques very inspiring.  At the same time, he continues an ongoing discourse with the ceramic vessel, exploring its formal and symbolic potential.
